Migration – Region – Integration

The current special issue “Migration – Region – Integration // Migrazione – regione – integrazione” of the professional journal Geschichte und Region / Storia e regione [28 (2019), 2], edited by Massimiliano Livi, examines migration in social relations and social practices. In four regional case studies (the Ruhr area, Wolfsburg, Prato and some areas of the GDR), the contributors focus on the respective nexus of migration and integration and the associated local negotiation processes since the 1970s.
In one of the main contributions, the historian Lutz Raphael from Trier reconstructs the experiences and household strategies of Turkish families in the context of the transformations of the coal and steel industry in the Ruhr area since the 1970s.
